in November 2022, EdSmart received ISO27001 Information Security Management certification, following multiple audit stages and a more than year-long program of preparation.
The ISO/IEC 27001:2013 accreditation refers specifically to the requirements for establishing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system within the context of an organisation.
As David Eedle, CEO of EdSmart stated, “We’ve always aimed for the highest standards of confidentiality, integrity and availability at EdSmart, and it’s now very reassuring to know that the standards we uphold have been given the stamp of approval as part of this official ISO 27001 certification process.”
“As we’ve all witnessed recently, data breaches can have grave and cascading implications,” he continues. “This certification tells our customers and EdTech partners that we understand they entrust us with their student, parent and staff information, and it’s our responsibility to safeguard it.”
According to Theresa Klunk, Programme Manager of EdSmart responsible for leading the process, achieving certification demanded a whole-of-company approach.
“We reviewed and strengthened our policies and procedures, and trained all of our staff on information security controls on technical, organisational and physical levels,” Theresa explains. “Receiving this certification is testament to the high level of commitment from all our employees.”
“Our cybersecurity consultants at CTRL Group conducted an internal audit prior to the official one,” she continues. “Their guidance was a tremendous help since there is so much involved in the process.”
As part of this accreditation, EdSmart’s operations will continue to be reviewed to ensure compliance with the strict regulatory requirements on an ongoing basis.
“I’d like to thank the whole of the EdSmart team for making this accreditation happen,” concludes David. “It makes me very proud to know that everyone at EdSmart is committed to standards of excellence that are then passed onto our schools.”
