Emma is a keen content strategist who absolutely adores coming up with the overarching narrative mosaic that is magically revealed from the smaller stories contained within it. She relishes in finding these opportunities for clients that they may not see otherwise. From industries as diverse as advanced manufacturing, OT cybersecurity, social and community housing and edtech to film distributors/exhibitors, DVD labels, cultural festivals and arts institutions, Emma has thrived on the creative challenges that each organisation brings, Every brand has a human story; it’s just a matter of unwrapping that story and giving it wings.

Xavier College lets us in on their secrets as an EdSmart school.

Xavier College is a Catholic co-educational school in South Australia. The school is anchored in the Salesian tradition, with pastoral care integral to student life. Teacher and ICT manager of Xavier College, Anthony Sutton, lets us in on a few of their secrets as an EdSmart school.

You’ve been at Xavier College since 1997. What are your fondest memories?

Being part of a school that has developed from a bare paddock in 1995 to the school that it is today is amazing. Being part of that development in the beginning, and now as we replace and improve facilities and services, is always challenging but equally enjoyable.

The founding Principal was forward-thinking in his ideas so we were always at the forefront of technologies. That continues.

What drew you to EdSmart?

A couple of years ago, someone asked me to look into electronic permission forms so I conducted some research and due diligence testing. EdSmart met all of our needs for a product, and there didn’t seem to be unnecessary bloat associated with the product. That, and I could see the team would be a great partner in the long-term.

The pricing was, and continues to be, great value. As we have gone through 12 months with the product, we have seen many interesting and useful features added, and dealing with the company has been a positive experience. Response times are fantastic.

What's been the biggest impact you've seen using EdSmart? 

It has made a big - positive - change to our staff wellbeing. The hours saved have been amazing. It has had a great impact on the return of forms, as there isn’t the need to rely on a student taking it home, getting it out, getting it filled in, and then hoping they remember to put it back in their pack.

We're more efficient, run smarter and definitely happier.

What tips would you give other EdSmart schools?

The biggest advice I could give would be to make sure you work with EdSmart and your Student Information System (SIS) to make sure that the data will be automatically available for EdSmart. That, and collaborate with the EdSmart team - they're lovely to work with.

How do you see the future of technology in your school? 

Technology in the classroom will be the norm, and devices will be multiple and chosen for the specific task at hand. I envision an integrated future, and EdSmart plays a core part of that.

If the magic teacher fairy could grant you three wishes, what would they be?

Reliable multicast wireless display, multi-day battery life on devices and less assessment constraints - so more learning for students.
